FERRUM — Methodist (North Carolina) University won all six singles matches and swept doubles play Saturday for a 9-0 non-conference men’s tennis triumph over Ferrum College at the Burrows-Skeens Tennis Courts.
The Monarchs (8-10) won all six singles matches in straight sets.
The Panthers (3-10) managed to win six games in those matches: one each by Riley Kern and Houston Murphy at Nos. 1 and 5 singles and two each by Patrick Marsh and Jacob Glass (Bassett) at Nos. 2 and 4.
“I’m proud of the guys performance. I can see our team taking a step forward with every match we play,’’ Ferrum head coach Rod Baker said.
Methodist, which competed in the NCAA Division III USA South Athletic Conference, is a former league rival of the Panthers, npw a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).
Winning in singles werre Hayden Wilfong (6-0, 6-1), E.J. Stolmeijer (6-0, 6-2), Luke Lanney (6-0, 6-0), Max Linder (6-0, 6-2), Owen Findley (6-0, 6-1) and Samir Tewari (6-0, 6-0)
Methodist swept the three eight-game pro set doubles matches, winning 8-1, 8-2 and 8-3.
Winning teams were Wilfong and Joshua Deutsch, Stolmeijer and A.J. Rogers and Alex Lycan and Spencer Keift.
