HAMPDEN-SYDNEY — Hampden-Sydney College netted the match’s first four goals and scored all six of the second-stanza tallies en route to a 17-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men’s soccer triumph over Ferrum College at Everett Stadium.
The Tigers (7-2 in the ODAC, 12-4 overall) led 7-3 after the first quarter and 13-3 at intermission.
Hampden-Sydney extended its scoring surge to eight goals at the start of the second half; the Tigers won the the third quarter 3-1.
The Panthers (1-8 in the ODAC, 2-14 overall) won the final frame 3-1.
Hampden-Sydney outshot Ferrum, 51-26, and held advantages in ground balls (58-31), faceoffs won (23-5).
The Tigers forced 29 turnovers, while committing 21 and was 3 of 3 in man-up scoring chances as opposed to the Panthers’ 2 of 5 clip.
Ferrum was 22 of 22 in clears, while Hampden-Sydney was 17 of 18.
Jared Medwar paced the Tigers with three goals, while Sean Duffy and John Burke each tallied two and Jake O’Brien, Brooks Waskey, Bobby Clagett, Jake Brummett, George Marshall, Logan Mitchell and Harry D’Agostino each netted one.
Ten of Hampden-Sydney’s goals were produced by an assist.
Mackoy Bodmer and Jacob Boswell each tallied two goals for Ferrum, while Jack Sheehan, Cam Steeley and Ronald Carney each scored a goal.
Five of the Panthers’ seven goals were produced by an assist.
Bodmer and Sheehan each distributed two assists and Steeley passed out an assist.
Hampden-Sydney goalkeeper Nick Arcuri (9-4) collected one save in 30 minutes of action.
Ferrum goalkeeper Patrick Martinek (1-7) registered 12 saves in the first half and reserve Koby McMahon recorded five saves in the second half.
Ferrum committed three infractions for 2 minutes, 30 seconds, while Hampden-Sydney committed five infractions for four minutes.
The Panthers conclude the 2019 season Saturday at Bridgewater College. Faceoff for the ODAC match is 6 p.m.
Ferrum head coach Mike Baggetta is a former assistant coach at Bridgewater.
