HIGH SCHOOL LACROSSE: Knighrts slay Eagles boys, 17-4

ROANOKE — Cave Spring netted 10 goals in the first half and seven after intermission Friday en route to a 17-4 boys varsity lacrosse victory over Franklin County at Dwight Bogle Stadium.

Parker Mills and Garrett Breiner each tallied five goals for the Knights, while Richard Kidwell netted four.

Goalkeeper Josh Wainwright collected 10 saves for Cave Spring.

Tyler Held and Tommy Jackson each netted two goals for the Eagles.

FCHS (2-4) returns to action Thursday at Salem, which is a year removed from a Class 4 state tournament appearance.

Knights edge Eagles

in overtime, 10-9

ROANOKE – Cave Spring netted the match-winning goal less than a minute into overtime Thursday in a 10-9 boys junior varsity lacrosse triumph over Franklin County at Dwight Bogle Stadium.

The Knights led the match from wire-to-wire.

The Eagles tied the score at 8 and later at 9 in the fourth quarter of the 40-minute match.

In regular-season matches, a four-minute overtime period is play, but the stanza ends when the first goal is scored.

If there is no scoring, the match ends in a tie.

FCHS (2-3), coached by Chris McClure, returns to action Saturday against Cosby at C.I. (Cy) Dillon Stadium-Fred M. Brown Memorial Field.
