ABINGDON — Ferrum College’s women’s golf team placed last in a field of four teams at the Wasp Invitational, hosted by Emory & Henry College and contested at Glenrochie Country Club, a par 72, 5,800-yard layout.
Twenty-one players comprised the field for the two-day, 36-hole, stroke-play tournament that was staged Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
Bridgewater College (336-338, 674) bested Southern Virginia University (339-351, 690) by 16 strokes to claim top team honors.
University of Lynchburg (352-359, 711) came in third, followed by Ferrum (412-408, 820).
Lynchburg golfers finished first, second and third on the individual leader board, but its fourth player was 20th and her two scored, each of which exceeded 100, counted.
Lilly Self (75-79, 154) captured individual accolades by six shots over teammate Ivy Foran (80-80, 160) and by eight strokes over teammate Maddie Cody (79-83, 162).
For Ferrum, Jetta Huffman (82-91, 173) was 10th, followed by Hunter Tharpe (91-84, 175) in a tie for 12th, Caroline King (115-117, 232) in 19th and Arin Bunker (124-116, 240) in 21st.
Six players competed for Bridgewater, five competed for Southern Virginia and two competed for Emory & Henry.
Ferrum concludes the fall portion of its 2019-2020 season Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 21 and 22 in the Chick-fil-a College Invitational at Coosa Country Club in Rome, Ga.
