The Smith Mountain Lake Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society held its annual Independence Day cruise on the evening of July 4. The group gathered at Bridgewater Plaza traveled up the Roanoke River arm of the lake and turned around at channel marker R39. This year’s cruise was renamed as The Don Smith Memorial Fourth of July Cruise in honor of longtime chapter member Don Smith who recently died. Smith’s son, Randy, traveled to the lake and piloted his father’s boat on the cruise. Seven wooden boats participated in this year’s celebration. For information about the chapter, contact Alan Frederick at 352-8653 or email@example.com.
