CRAWFORD Vivian Thomas August 22, 1941 May 23, 2019 V.T. (Slim) Crawford, 77 of Moneta, Va. passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019 following a short illness. He was born August 22, 1941 in Troutville, Va. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Mildred Crawford; and his faithful dog, "LC". He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jane; sister, Janet Poindexter; sister-in-law, Nancy Flippo; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews; friends and his faithful dog, "Diesel". He was a charter member and deacon at Westlake Baptist Church. He had a long career as a volunteer fire fighter, helping to organize Burnt Chimney Volunteer Fire Department. He later organized Scruggs Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Inc. where he served as Chief for 41 years and remained an active member. He also served in the United States Army Reserves. The family asks that no food be brought to the home. In lieu of flowers family requests that donations be made to Scruggs Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Inc. at PO Box 844, Hardy, Va. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Scruggs Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. The family will receive friends following the service. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount/Smith Mountain Lake.
