Repairs to a damaged pipe in the turn lane of Va. 220 led to closing the left southbound lane where 220 meets Va. 956 (Redbud Hill Road) last night, June 17. Virginia Department of Transportation officials will perform additional repairs and run a camera through the pipe today.

VDOT spokesman Jason Bond said the pipe is metal, and has been under Va. 220 for 50 to 60 years. While VDOT officials won’t know exactly what damaged the pipe until the camera investigation is performed, the pipe’s age is a factor, he explained.

Crews will first repair the road above the pipe before addressing the damaged pipe itself. VDOT expects to reopen the lane later today. For updates, visit 511Virginia.org.
