The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has charged two men with possession of stolen property after a series of break-ins in Hardy in August, according to a news release from Capt. Phillip Young.

David Morgan Ayers, 46, of Vinton, and Michael Lawrence Walters, 40, of Roanoke, are suspected of breaking into outbuildings and vehicles from Aug. 23 through 25 in the areas of Wysong Mill, Overlook, Moorman, Northridge and Island roads in Hardy, Young said in the release.

Items reported missing included a firearm, weed eaters, a water pump, tools and drills. “Numerous items from the break-ins have been recovered,” Young said in the release.

After identifying suspects and executing search warrants, Ayers and Walters were taken into custody by the Roanoke Police Department, but have since been released on bond, Young said.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending, Young said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. J.P. Nolen at 483-6662.
