STEP, Inc. representatives met with Denise Van Valkenburg of Congressman Denver Riggleman’s office to share personal stories and information about the positive impacts made by Head Start programs in the local community.

Pictured from left: STEP Early Childhood Education Director Shirley Wells, Head Start grandparent Robin Menefee, Head Start Family Advocate Lori Pruitt, and Head Start Teacher Brandy Ferguson with Menefee’s granddaughter and former Head Start student, Harper, on her lap. Van Valkenburg is on the far right.

Both Pruitt and Ferguson also have children who attended Head Start, and Ferguson is a former Head Start student herself. The National Head Start Association is conducting a Families Unite Campaign to bring awareness and to ask for continued funding and support for the national program. STEP offers Head Start in Franklin and Patrick counties.
