Whitney Brock will judge this year’s Art Show presented by Smith Mountain Arts Council.

Smith Mountain Arts Council recently announced the 30th annual SMAC Art Contest and Show that will be Oct. 25 through 27 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Moneta.

Categories of art include oils, acrylics, watercolors, mixed media, other (including pastels, pencil, stained glass, sculpture and woodworking) and a separate student category for entrants 18 years and younger. Monetary adult and student awards will be given, based on judged criteria, as well as a people’s choice award.

An opening reception and presentation of awards will be Oct.25, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Art show hours will be Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Oct. 27 from noon to 3 p.m.

This year’s judge will be Whitney Brock, an artist who paints and teaches privately in Roanoke, who also maintains a studio and gallery in Moneta. Brock’s art journey began in Auckland New Zealand, and she later attended Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts.

Brock worked in residential and commercial mural painting until she transitioned into a full-time studio painter. She has been featured in International Artist magazine and received awards in both juried and invitational shows.
