Investigators and Deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office conducted a drug investigation May 2 in the 2800 block of Virgil H. Goode Highway in Franklin County. According to a May 6 press release by FCSO Captain Phillip Young, during the investigation, deputies came in to contact with Robert E. Hailey, 38, of Rocky Mount, who was a passenger in a vehicle. He was found to be in possession of approximately 7 grams of a white powdery substance, which field tested positive for cocaine. Hailey was charged with possession with intent to distribute a schedule I or II controlled substance,. Because there was a juvenile in the vehicle with Hailey, he was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was released on the same day on a $1,000 bond. The case is currently still under investigation and additional charges may be pending.
