A man was found dead in his home in Rocky Mount on Nov. 29.

Rocky Mount Police Department responded to a residence on North Main Street late Friday night. Officers found a 68-year-old man dead of an unknown cause. Officials have not confirmed if anyone else was present in the home at the time, but said the public is not at risk.

“There is no reason to believe there is a threat to the community,” said Rocky Mount Police Chief K.E. Criner. “Anyone with information regarding this case should call our department at 483-9275 or the dispatch at 483-3000 or 911.”

The man’s body was taken to the Western Virginia Medical Examiner’s office in Roanoke for autopsy. Police expect to receive the official autopsy report later this week.

According to a Dec. 1 press release by Assistant Town Manager Matt Hankins, police will not release the man’s name or address until next of kin has been notified.
