John Hinkell

On April 10, John D. Hinkell announced that he will run for the Union Hall seat on the Franklin County Board of Supervisors. The election is Nov. 5.

Incumbent Tommy Cundiff said he does plan to run for re-election.

Hinkell is a U.S. Army Veteran whose platform focuses on bringing “sound fiscal management to Franklin County,” he wrote in his announcement.

“I am running for the Board of Supervisors – Union Hall District because I believe new leadership is needed to build an inspiring vision, set direction, bring our communities together, and engage residents in local and county decision-making,” he continued.

“No matter where you live in the Union Hall District, you as taxpayers should have a say in how your tax dollars are spent.”

Hinkell’s goals include outreach to Union Hall residents, and bringing attention to opportunities and challenges involving the district and the county.

“Together we can sort through challenges and opportunities and ensure that all taxpayers have a voice,” Hinkell wrote.

Hinkell served in the U.S. Army for 27 years.

I was wondering what political party Mr. Hinkell represents himself with? While that should never be the reason anyone votes for someone, it does shed some insight on their political beliefs.
I am glad that Mr. Hinkell is running. People need a choice in their local politics and it seems, just on the surface, that he is a viable option.
