After nearly 35 years of service to the Smith Mountain Lake and surrounding communities, Kris Willard, A.S.I.D., has sold Interiors By Kris, an interior design and space planning business located in Hardy. New owner, Josie Long, will continue to operate as Interiors By Kris and will keep the 7,000 square feet of showroom and design center located at 13161 Booker T. Washington Highway.
“This is a bittersweet milestone in my career. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the wonderful employees I’ve worked with for nearly 30 years and to the many installers who made it happen. I would also like to thank all the clients who have supported the business and for the many friendships established along the way,” stated Willard.
Willard, a military child who lived around the U.S., graduated from the University of Tennessee after studying interior design and architecture. Her career has spanned over three decades during which she has earned multiple awards and obtained several professional certifications. As one of Smith Mountain Lake’s first female business owners who built her business from the ground up, Willard has expanded the client base across the East Coast including universities, country clubs, commercial businesses and thousands of residential homes. She is certified by the National Council of Interior Design Qualification a longtime member of the American Society of Interior Designers, and holds a Virginia Class A Contractors license. In addition, she serves on the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research Board of Trustees and Foundation Board as well as Averett University’s Board of Trustees. Willard will remain with Interiors By Kris for one additional year as a consultant.
Josie Long, the new owner, earned a bachelor’s degree in interior Design from Radford University during which she completed an extensive internship with Interiors By Kris. Since then, Long practiced design in Richmond, with Ultimate Builders Services designing and staging homes and most recently as a design consultant for Arhaus furniture before relocating to Smith Mountain Lake full-time to become Interiors By Kris’ Lead Designer. She is an allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers
