A 6-year-old girl is dead following a motor vehicle crash Thursday, June 6, on Hendricks Store Road, two tenths of a mile south of Timberwood Lane in Bedford County.

Virginia State Police are investigating the two-vehicle crash that resulted in the fatality. According to police, at approximately 5:30 p.m. a vehicle was traveling south on Hendricks Store Road when it crossed the center line and struck a second vehicle head-on.

The driver of the southbound vehicle, a 34-year-old Moneta woman, was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for injuries along with two female juvenile passengers in the vehicle, ages 6 and 8.

The 6-year-old female juvenile later died from her injuries, according to a June 7 press release from Sgt. Rick Garletts of the Virginia State Police.

The driver of the second vehicle was also transported for injuries received in the crash.

The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team was called to assist with the crash. The road was reopened around 7:20 p.m. after officers cleared the scene, Garletts said.

The crash remains under investigation. Police say charges are pending.
