From STAFF REPORTS
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call April 26 just after 11 a.m. in reference to shots being fired in to a vehicle. A woman caller advised that she was traveling north on U.S. 220 in Boones Mill with her four-year-old child and a male friend when a person in another vehicle brandished a firearm and shot their tire out. No injuries were reported, according to an April 29 press release from Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Phillip Young.
Upon arriving in the area and speaking with the operator of the disabled vehicle, deputies learned a black sport utility vehicle (SUV) with tinted windows stopped abruptly in the right lane near the traffic light in Boones Mill. The driver of the disabled vehicle moved into the left lane, to avoid a collision, and continued north. The SUV began moving in front of and behind the victim vehicle.
The occupants of the disabled vehicle told deputies that the driver of the SUV was a female and there was a male in the front passenger’s seat and another male in the rear seat. The man in the front seat, later identified as Michael D. Holloway, 33, of Rocky Mount, produced a firearm and fired rounds at the occupied vehicle, flattening the tire.
The SUV fled the scene before deputies arrived. Investigators from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office retrieved video from a local business and were able to identify the suspect vehicle as a black SUV. Shortly after 1 p.m. on the same day, officers from the Rocky Mount Police Department observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle at a business in the Town of Rocky Mount and were able to detain the driver for further investigation.
Investigators with the Franklin County Sherriff’s Office were able to determine that this was the suspect vehicle and were able to identify the shooter. Holloway was charged with felony shooting into an occupied vehicle and released on a $2,500 bond.
