FRANKLIN COUNTY - The funeral for Gary Wayne Beard, 50, who died Friday, Aug. 27, was conducted Monday, Aug. 30 from Powell Funeral Chapel by Rev. Todd McClure. Burial was in the family cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leedell Beard; and brother, Danny Beard.

Survivors include his daughter, Cristal B. Phelps of Halifax; mother, Nannie Sue Epps Beard of Halifax; and sister, Kim Comer (Garry) of Halifax.

ROCKY MOUNT - The funeral for Elizabeth (Liz) Smith Bousman, 85, who died Thursday, Aug. 26, was conducted Sunday, Aug. 29 from Doe Run Christian Church by Rev. Jim Compton. Burial was in the Hodges family cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim Henry Smith and Martha Betty Perdue Smith; husband, Nathaniel Gray Bousman; and sisters, Orine Brown McGhee, Minnie Dudley, Geneva Mattox and Mary Lee Hall.

Survivors include her children, Bonnie Turner (Eldridge), Kenneth Bousman and James Bousman (Donna); grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Furrow and Thomas Turner; and one great-grandchild.

FERRUM - The funeral for Bruce Edwin Chittum, 54, who died Friday, Aug. 27, was conducted Monday, Aug. 30 from Flora Funeral Chapel by Elder Billy Boone. Burial was in Chittum family cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dina Marie Chittum; son, Benjamin Edwin Chittum; mother, Mildred Chittum; and brother, Tommy Chittum.

Survivors include his father, Joseph Chittum; sister, Sharon Harmon (Charlie); daughter, Christy Marie Bailey (Dallas); sons, Jacob Chittum (Julie) and Jason Chittum (Melissa); and grandchildren, Stirling, Caleb, Keith, Clayton, Evelyn, William, Nathaniel and Luke.

HARDY - The funeral for Rebecca Sue (Becky) Cole, 53, who died Thursday, Aug. 26, was conducted Friday, Aug. 27 from Oakeys Vinton Chapel by Pastor Ronald Coleman. Burial was in Franklin Memorial Park.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Cole.

Survivors include her son, Danny Cole of Roanoke; brothers, Billy, Howard, Kenneth and John Hale, all of Roanoke; and four grandchildren.

ROCKY MOUNT - The funeral for James Willie (J.W.) Hall, who died Friday Aug. 27, was conducted Monday, Aug. 30 from Flora Funeral Chapel by Pastor Jim Walls. Burial was in Franklin Memorial Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Pearl Hall; and wife, Elizabeth Wells Hall.

Survivors include his son, William Monroe Hall (Melissa); and granddaughter, Luci Hall.

CHATHAM - Louise Brooks Harbour, 83, died Monday, Aug. 30.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Thomas Brooks and Mary Gregory Brooks; husband, Andrew Wesley Harbour; brothers, Harold Brooks, Joseph Brooks, Roy Lee Brooks and George Brooks; and sisters, Clarice Brooks, Doris Brooks and Mildred Brooks.

Survivors include her son, Anthony Lee Tony Harbour of Chatham; brother, Douglas Brooks of Rocky Mount; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted Thursday, Sept. 2 at 2 p.m. from Roselawn Funeral Chapel by Chaplain Danny Wells. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Kathleen Meaney, age 70 of Rocky Mount died Sunday, August 29, 2010.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Meaney; parents, Cornelious and Dorothy Bonacum; sister, Bonnie Bonacum; other relatives and friends.

Surviving are her daughters and family, Kathleen Miles, Kelly Meaney and Cliff, Tom and Isabelle May, Kristine and husband Thomas Huber; grandchildren, Joseph, Pate, James, Timothy, Christian, and Lindsay; two brothers, Richard and Niel Bonacum, Jr.; and sister, Dorothy Bachelor.

Funeral services will be held at Bethel AME Church at 1 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2010 with Rev. Gore officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethel AME Church, 385 Diamond Ave, Rocky Mount, VA, 24151.

Her family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 12 noon Friday at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
