Rocky Mount meals tax
Collections down slightly for 2014

The Town of Rocky Mount collected $715,036 in meals tax during the first seven months of this year,according to the finance department's July report.

That's down slightly from the $715,289 collected in the first seven months of 2013.

In July, meals tax collections totaled $111,448, up from $110,701 collected in July 2013.

The largest monthly amount of meals tax collected this year was in June when $111,723 was collected. The lowest amount collected this year was $88,119 in February.

The meals tax continues to be the largest revenue producer for the town.

The finance department also reported that sales tax collections for the first seven months of this year totaled $92,186, down from the $97,293 in the same time period in 2013.

The largest monthly amount of sales tax collections this year was $15,006 in July. The lowest amount was in April with $11,061.
