A Franklin County resident will walk away with a pocketful of money soon.
The Retail Merchants Association (RMA) is sponsoring a fundraiser that is a scavenger hunt of sorts, with a pot of money at the end.
Here's how it works.
Anyone interested in participating can pay a one-time registration fee of $5 and sign up to receive a treasure hunt voucher. Sign-up begins Monday, Aug. 11 at any participating business listed below or the RMA office beside the Rocky Mount Post Office.
When the hunt begins on Aug. 23, those players must present the voucher to participating businesses to receive a clue as to the location of the treasure.
Clues are accumulated until someone finds the treasure.
"We will start registering people for the treasure hunt Saturday, Aug. 9, at the farmers' market during our yard sale fundraiser, and then the businesses will register Aug. 11 through Aug. 22," said Belinda Webb, RMA assistant.
Businesses where residents can obtain a voucher and start collecting clues include Computer Shock, Bowling's Place, Ruth's Place, Tommy's Pawn Shop, Franklin Finance Co., Gusler's Alignment Center, Gibson's One Stop Shop, Franklin News-Post, 40 West Building Supply, State Farm/Crawford Agency, C & C Auto Sales, Lakescapes Nursery and Oasis Salon & Spa.
The RMA's yard sale Saturday at the farmers' market in Rocky Mount starts at 8 a.m.
Another RMA event, Farmers Appreciation Day, is set for Saturday, Sept. 27. Call in nominations for Farmer of the Year at 483-9211 or email email@example.com.
