A repaving project on North Main Street in Rocky Mount is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 11.
The town's paving contractor, Patterson Brothers, will remove the existing pavement surface on all lanes of North Main and replace it with new asphalt, according to Assistant Town Manager Matt Hankins.
The resurfacing will begin at the U.S. 220 ramps and continue to Ferguson Land & Lumber.
"This section of pavement is in need of replacement," Hankins said. "As one of the primary highways running through town, the effects of heavy tractor trailers, loaded school buses and daily commercial traffic take their toll."
After pavement resurfacing is complete, new striping will be painted, Hankins said. This new striping will include some modifications to the current shared-use turn lanes and some straightening of existing lanes to improve traffic flow.
The entire project is expected to be complete within two weeks.
Motorists are advised to use caution while the project is under construction, especially between 3 and 3:15 p.m each weekday when secondary school buses travel along North Main from the middle school to the high school.
