The 15th annual "Pack the Bus" event to collect school supplies for underprivileged children will take place Friday, Aug. 1 at Walmart in Rocky Mount.

The bus will be in the parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

Individuals or businesses that wish to contribute school supplies can drop them off at the bus on Friday.

All supplies collected in Rocky Mount will stay in Franklin County and will be distributed to children in county schools. School officials will handle the distribution of the donated school supplies.

The project has collected more than $500,000 in school supplies over the past 14 years.

Walmart is sponsoring the event this year with help from Pepsi.

Last year, the community donated over $4,100 in school supplies for area students in need.
