Rocky Mount Town Council had a light agenda Monday night and approved six items listed under new business.
A request from Greg Winge, CSA program director, for a waiver of fees to use the farmers' market to hold a Franklin County Family Fun Day was unanimously approved. The event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 22.
The Family Fun Day is being held in conjunction with the Court Appointed Special Advocate Family Day, which is a national movement to celebrate parental engagement as an effective tool to keep America's kids substance free.
Council also approved a request from the Franklin County High School Student Council Association (SCA) to sponsor its annual homecoming parade on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 5 p.m.
The Rocky Mount Police Department will provide police security along the parade route. The parade will leave from Franklin County High School on Perdue Lane, turn let onto Tanyard Road, right on Pell Avenue, left on North Main Street, left on Tanyard Road and end back at the high school.
Also approved by town council:
•A request for the Sickle Cell Walk-a-thon on Sunday, Sept. 28.
The walk starts at the farmers' market and uses a route the town police chief will map out, southward to Riverside Minute Market and returning to the farmers' market. Start time of the parade is yet to be determined.
•Appointed council member Greg Walker to serve on the West Piedmont Planning District Commission Executive Committee.
•Approved a procedure to remove areas designated as alleys but never used from town maps and legal papers.
