County Agricultural Fair to host entry day for competitive exhibits

Wednesday, July 9, 2014

The Franklin County Agricultural Fair will host an entry day for competitive exhibits on Monday, Sept. 8 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Franklin County Recreation Park.

The event will allow participants to enter items in a variety of agriculture related categories to be judged for a chance to win cash prizes and fair ribbons.

Entries will be judged on Tuesday, Sept. 9 and displayed for the duration of the fair, Sept. 10-13, at the Franklin County Recreation Park. No viewing of entries will be allowed during judging.

Categories, which are further broken down by class, include fresh and canned fruits and vegetables, baked goods, canned meats, flowers, quilts and more. Participants may enter items in various categories but are limited to only one item per class.

"Competitive exhibits are a great way to celebrate local and regional agriculture and the skills of the participants who grow and create these wonderful items," said Carol Haynes, nutrition outreach instructor with the Virginia Cooperative Extension and chair of the fair's competitions committee.

Competitive exhibits are open to participants in and beyond Franklin County. Rules and regulations

apply. For entry forms, rules and a complete list of categories and classes, visit www.FCAgFair.com, call (540) 483-3040 or email info@FCAgFair.com.
