Numerous residents participated in the annual Fun Festival flatfooting contest during the Retail Merchants Association’s festival Monday at the Rocky Mount Farmers’ Market.

Haley Pendleton, Brian Ferguson and Jerry Hodges each won first-place prizes in the flatfooting contest Monday during the annual Retail Merchants Association's (RMA) Fun Festival.
Pendleton won first place for the ages 8 to 20 group, with Brittany Ferguson coming in second.
Ferguson won first place for the ages 21-55 group, followed by Anthony Bausan in second place.
Hodges won first place for the ages 56 and up group, followed by Glen Wimmer in second.
County residents gathered at the Rocky Mount Farmers' Market Monday evening to compete in the flatfooting contest organized by Sandy Via and judged by Mike Burnette, Matt Hankins and John Perrow.
Cash prizes of $50 and $25 were awarded to the top two finishers in each age category. Children under 7 years old competed for other prizes.
The free festival was emceed by Leon Griffith of Cascade.
The Friday Night Band provided music and the Old Dominion Cloggers entertained the crowd with several performances during the event.
Vendors sold hot dogs, barbecue, popcorn and soft drinks. Face painting, balloon art and dart games were offered for children.
Two Serta recliners were won by Ben Gearhart and Ann Roberson. Proceeds from the raffle tickets benefit the RMA.
