Feet will be flying Monday night as the annual Retail Merchants Association's Fun Festival gets under way at the Rocky Mount Farmers' Market.
The event will start at 6 p.m. with the traditional flatfooting contest, set to begin around 7:30 p.m.
Music will be provided by the Friday Night Band, and special guests will be the Old Dominion Cloggers, who will do several performances.
Besides the music and dancing, hot dogs, barbecue , popcorn, cotton candy and soft drinks will be available. Face painting, balloon art and dart games are on tap for the children.
The highlight of the event is the flatfooting contest, determining who are the best flatfooters in the county.
Cash prizes of $50 and $25 will be awarded to the top two finishers in each of the three categories. Categories are 8 years old to 20, ages 21 to 55, and 56 and up.
Children up to 7 years old can compete for other prizes.
Those who want to compete must register by 7 p.m. Sandy Via is heading the contest.
Mike Burnette, Matt Hankins and John Perrow will be the judges.
Leon Griffith of Cascade will once again be the emcee of the festival.
Admission is free and everyone is encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
Two Serta recliners will also be given away during the event. The RMA has been selling raffle tickets for the recliners. Those tickets, at $5 each, will be available on Monday evening before the drawings.
