Haywood’s again hosting Diamond Dig fundraiser

Monday, June 9, 2014

Haywood's Jewelers will be holding a Diamond Dig at its Smith Mountain Lake location on Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All proceeds from the event will go to the American Heart Association.

A huge sandbox will be constructed and more than 600 carats of gemstones will be scattered under the sand.

The grand prize is a 1.19 carat blue diamond.

Customers making a donation of $35 or more at either Haywood's location will receive a bucket to bring to the dig.

At the event, customers with buckets will be entitled to one scoop of sand per bucket out of the sandbox. Any of the gemstones they find in that scoop will be theirs to keep.

Each bucket also includes a $30 coupon that can be used toward a Haywood's purchase.

This is the second Diamond Dig that Haywoods has hosted. Last year's event raised more than $7,000 for the AHA, and the goal is to increase that figure at this year's dig.

Anyone interested in donating for a bucket should stop by either the Smith Mountain Lake location (at 84 Westlake Road, Suite 103, Hardy -- next to Kroger) or the Rocky Mount location (at 346 Franklin Street, Rocky Mount).

Call 540-721-2210 for more information.
