The 25th World Hunger Auction Bike Ride, which the local biking community identifies as the oldest, continuously held biking event in Franklin County, will be held on June 7.
The purpose of the ride is to raise funds for the projects supported by the World Hunger Auction, including Heavenly Manna and Roanoke Area Ministries.
The riders will leave from Antioch Church at 2996 Callaway Road and travel over routes of 5, 10, 25 or 50 miles. Registration for bicyclists begins at 8 a.m. with the riders embarking at 8:30 a.m.
Refreshments will be provided at rest stops for those on the longer routes and for all at the completion of their rides.
For the first time in the history of the ride, motorcyclists are invited to participate in a ride through the mountains in the Callaway area. They will register at 9:30 a.m. and will leave the church at about 10 a.m. A light lunch will be provided at the conclusion of their trip.
The registration fee is $25 or donations in excess of that amount solicited from donors. As one of a number of activities leading to the World Hunger Auction on Aug. 9, the event provides opportunity for bikers to support the fundraising efforts while enjoying the ride.
Members of the local dairy industry have provided some supplies for the ride.
Registration forms and additional information can be found at worldhungerauction.org.
