By STACEY HAIRSTON - Staff Writer

School employees will have three options for health insurance coverage next year with a rate decrease of 1.8 percent.

The Franklin County School Board recently voted to approve new contracts for employee health and dental insurance coverage.

The contract for health insurance coverage with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield was renewed with an option of a $1,000 deductible, $2,000 deductible or a $4,000 deductible, according to Finance Director Lee Cheatham.

"The addition of the $4,000 deductible option offers our employees choices that will fit their needs," said Cheatham.

With the first option, 10-month employees will pay $75 per month for employee coverage, $380 for employee and child, $788 for employee and spouse, and $938 for employee and family.

The school system pays $565 per month of the cost per employee, regardless of the plan they choose.

With the second option, 10-month employees will pay $48 for employee, $342 for employee and child, $732 for employee and spouse and $877 for employee and family.

With the third option, 10-month employees will pay $4 per month for employee coverage, $277 for employee and child, $639 for employee and spouse, and $744 for employee and family.

"Over a span of three years, our employee health insurance rates have increased by 6.5 percent, which is an average of 2.17 percent each year," Cheatham said. "That is not bad at all."

Office visit co-pays for all three options will be $30, and $50 for specialists.

Prescription co-pays will be $10, $30 or $50, depending on the drug tier, or 20 percent.

The out-of-pocket limit will be $3,500 per person or $7,000 per family with the $1,000 deductible option.

The out-of-pocket limit for the $2,000 deductible option will be $4,500 per person or $9,000 per family.

The out-of-pocket limit will be $6,350 per person or $12,700 per family for the $4,000 deductible option.

The contract for dental coverage was awarded to Delta Dental with a 7.9 percent rate increase, Cheatham said.

The monthly rates for 10-month employees will be $40.02 for employee, $79.58 for employee and spouse, $71.32 for employee and child, $98.22 for employee and children, and $123.22 for employee and family, Cheatham said.

The rates for 12-month employees will be $33.34 for employee, $66.64 for employee and spouse, $59.44 for employee and child, $81.86 for employee and children, and $102.64 for employee and family.
