Meals tax collections down for 2014

The Town of Rocky Mount collected $392,978 in meals tax revenue during the first four months of this year, according to the finance department's May report.

That's down from the $397,940 meals tax revenue that was collected in the first four months of 2013.

In April, meals tax collections totaled $106, 223, down from the $109,083 collected in April 2013.

The largest monthly amount of meals tax collected in the first four months of this year was in January when $108,245 was collected. The lowest amount collected during the first four months of this year was $88,119 February.

The town's meals tax continues to be the largest revenue producer for the town.

The finance department also reported that sales tax collections for the first four months of this year totaled $49,609, down from the $54,650 collected during the first four months of 2013.

The largest monthly amount of sales tax collections during the first four months of this year was $13,976 in March. The lowest amount was in April with $11,061.
