Volunteers from New Life Baptist Church is helping the Franklin County Family YMCA get the community playground ready for summer.
During a recent outreach meeting at New Life, several families who enjoy regular visits to the YMCA suggested painting the playground as a community service project. The group then contacted Jim Currie, CEO of the YMCA.
"The Y has partnered with numerous religious and community groups over the years to benefit residents," Currie said. "New Life Baptist is a great example of a community centered church doing all the right things. We were so happy to partner with them to give our playground a little TLC."
Volunteers from the church and YMCA maintenance staff pressure washed, cleaned and repainted the play system, designed for 2 to 6-year-olds, that is located on Technology Drive next to the YMCA. Also undertaken was re-mulching the outdoor space in order to provide the safest play experience for the children. The play system includes a bridge, climbing wall,
slides and other activities. It is available to the community at no charge.
"By joining with the YMCA on this colorful project, we hope to contribute to and connect with families in Franklin County," said Pastor Marco Smith. "The YMCA has a long history of providing family friendly programming. Not only does that include play space but also everything from swim lessons to special events like the free to everyone Health Kids Day event on May 10."
"It is great to see people in the area who understand how necessary the Y's programs and services are. We were incredibly grateful to have New Life Baptist partner with the Y to give Franklin County's children a chance to stay active and have a little fun," Currie added.
