A special ceremony for the late Cpl. Jared Kubasak is set for Wednesday, May 7 at the bridge over the Pigg River on Route 40 West.
An unveiling of the signs naming the bridge in his honor will be held at 11 a.m.
Lt. Col. Tracy Carter and his JROTC class from Franklin County High School will be on hand, as well as Cpl. Kubasak's parents, Daina and Darel.
Cpl. Kubasak was killed in Iraq in 2005, the only soldier from the county to die in that war.
The process to name the bridge in his honor officially began in May 2013, when the Franklin County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution making the request and sent it to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
That process was recently completed, with final approval from the Commonwealth Transportation Board.
The bridge is located just west of the intersection of Route 40 West and Six Mile Post Road.
The public is invited to the event.
