Malala Penn of Union Hall was crowned Miss Pigg River 2014 at the pageant recently held at the Pigg River Community Center.
Penn is the daughter of Gary and Ruby Penn.
Deandra Carico of Rocky Mount was selected as Miss Pre-Teen Pigg River.
Brooklyn Lee of Rocky Mount was named Little Miss Pigg River. She is the daughter of Ebony Lee.
The theme of this year's pageant was "The Future Is In Your Hands."
"It's our goal to build leadership, self-esteem, character and confidence in helping young ladies and girls grow to their full potential in aspiring to make a positive impact in the world," said Luci Cobbs Thomas, pageant coordinator.
The pageant showcases girls from Franklin, Henry and Roanoke counties.
This year's pageant consisted of 17 contestants who competed in the areas of "70s, 80s and 90s" wear, talent, evening wear, questioning and private interview with judges, along with a promenade.
The girls were judged in each category for their charm, poise and talent exemplified while on stage, Thomas said.
Other winners in each division include:
•Miss Pigg River: first runner-up, Rosalina Trotter of Rocky Mount, the daughter of Walter and Ruby Trotter; second runner-up, Kazia Crump of Hardy, the daughter of Tasha Crump and Charles Tinsley.
Additional awards were presented to Penn for Miss Together, Miss 70s Sports Wear, Miss Talent and Miss Awareness.
•Miss Pre-Teen Pigg River: first runner-up, Talaya Holland of Rocky Mount, the daughter of Shannika Hubbard and Timothy Holland.
Carico was also named Miss 80s Sports Wear and Miss Pre-Teen Talent.
•Little Miss Pigg River: first runner-up, Caylee Taylor of Rocky Mount, the daughter of Tambria Taylor; second runner-up, Kyleigh Buster of Salem, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Buster.
Taylor was named Miss 90s Sports Wear while Lee was crowned Miss Creative Expression.
