The Franklin County Family YMCA is preparing for its 2014 summer camp.
Highlights of this summer's camp include field trips to Splash Valley and Amazement Square, themed weeks like Wild Wild West week, and two specials session on the Ferrum College campus.
"We've put together a terrific program for the summer. By partnering with Ferrum College and Franklin County public schools, we are going to be offering a one-of-a-kind camp," said Hope Vaccaro, child care director with the YMCA.
The Y summer camp will spend the last two weeks of the summer break on the Ferrum College campus, where they will have access to the Blue Ridge Institute and Museum, tennis courts, nature trails, swimming pool and low ropes course.
The remainder of the summer will be spent in Rocky Mount at BFMS and Rocky Mount Elementary.
"Building strong partnerships in the community makes it possible for the Y to offer the essential services the community needs," said James Currie, CEO of the Y. "Both Ferrum College and Franklin County public schools are outstanding partners of the Y and understand the necessity of our services."
Campers will also take advantage of the YMCA's two pools and enjoy free swim lessons.
"We believe that it is essential for every child to learn to swim," said Jamie Stump, summer camp coordinator.
Early bird registration in April provides campers the opportunity to pay no registration fee for
signing up. The Y offers both 3-day or 5-day camp packages and provides bus service from Boones Mill Elementary and Burnt Chimney Elementary school.
"It is a part of what we do at the Y to make care available for every child in Franklin County," Vaccaro said. "We even offer our Life Line scholarship for families who might need to take advantage of it."
