The Ferrum College Theatre Arts Department will present "Into the Woods" in Sale Theatre on March 27, 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 30 at 2 p.m.
A book musical performed in two acts, "Into the Woods" is a lively and thought-provoking look at what can happen after "happily ever after."
In this revised 2006 version of "Into the Woods," author James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim, who wrote the music and lyrics, took several well-known fairy tales and wove them together as individual quests take favorite characters "into the woods." Included are the Baker and his Wife, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack, Cinderella, Rapunzel and other mysterious characters whose stories intertwine.
At the end of Act I, the characters have achieved their hearts' desire, but in Act II, the characters discover that the simplicity of a wish can have complicated and haunting results.
General admission is $6 for youth ages 7 - 17, $8 for seniors and $10 for adults. Admission is free for all students, faculty and staff with a current Ferrum College ID, though tickets are still required. For reservations, visit www.blueridgeperformingarts.com or call (540) 230-6600.
