Few artists can claim to be the world's best at what they do. Few would dispute, though, that Jerry Douglas is the best dobro player in the world -- and he'll show off his skills April 25 at Rocky Mount's Harvester Performance Center.

Best known for his work as a member of Alison Krauss & Union Station, Douglas is a master musician, songwriter and producer. His most recent album, "Traveler," includes contributions from Eric Clapton, Mumford & Sons, Paul Simon, Keb'Mo, Marc Cohn and Allison Krauss & Union Station.

"When we were still putting together design ideas for the Harvester, several people suggested Allison Krauss & Union Station would be the ideal act to open the venue," said Rocky Mount Assistant Town Manager Matt Hankins. "Getting Jerry Douglas here is a tremendous accomplishment for Harvester Manager Gary Jackson and the Harvester staff, and a great performance for our community and the Crooked Road, as well."

Douglas has earned 13 Grammy Awards and has been Musician of the Year of the Country Music Association, Academy of Country Music and the Americana Music Association. He has also won numerous International Bluegrass Music Association awards and the Americana Music Association's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Douglas has been a part of Alison Krauss & Union Station, The Country Gentlemen, J.D. Crowe and the New South, Boone Creek, Strength in Numbers, Elvis Costello's Sugarcanes and others. He has appeared on over 2,000 recordings throughout his career, including artists like James Taylor, Ray Charles, Lyle Lovett, Garth Brooks, Earl Scruggs, Emmylou Harris and the soundtrack to the movie "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"

Tickets are on sale now for the show on April 25, as well as over 50 other shows already scheduled for the spring and summer. Tickets for this show are $20 in advance, or $24 on the day of the show.

"We expect this show to sell out before the show date, so Jerry Douglas fans should get their tickets now to ensure a seat," said Jackson. "This promises to be a great night of music from one of the best musicians in the world."

The Harvester Performance Center is located in Rocky Mount, Virginia. The 475-seat venue will host over 150 musical acts each year from all genres of music. Visit harvester-music.com to see all the upcoming shows.
