The Franklin County Family YMCA and Ferrum College will host the second annual "Put Cuffs on Cancer, Chalk It Up" 5K run on March 29.
The run, held on the Ferrum campus, is a themed event where participants are covered in colored powder to produce unique patterns on clothing. Participants are encouraged to wear all white or costumes.
"For years, the Y has done many great races both at Rocky Mount and Smith Mountain Lake, so we are going to build on that momentum and offer a really unique experience with this race," said Chris Rill with the Ferrum YMCA.
"We are sure the community will come out to support this event because it is something fun and different for both participants and spectators," said Logan Hodges, co-event director. "In hopes of exemplifying Ferrum College's motto, 'Not Self, But Others,' we aim to double our charitable donation of $1,300 from last year's race. It is amazing to see what the college and the community can achieve when they come together for a great cause."
The proceeds of the event will be divided between Franklin County YMCA, American Cancer Society and Ferrum College Criminal Justice Club.
Anyone interested in the event can find information and sign up online at https://cuffsoncancer.eventbrite.com/ or stop by the YMCA.
