The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is warning residents and businesses not to provide credit card information to telephone solicitors.
Several local businesses have been targeted recently by a caller who claims to be an advertising agent raising funds for the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, according to Major Harry Clingenpeel.
The caller asks for credit card donations that he says will be used to print refrigerator magnets with the proceeds benefiting the sheriff's office, Clingenpeel said.
"The sheriff's office does not conduct phone solicitations for fundraising efforts," Clingenpeel said. "If you or your business receives a phone call in reference to a phone solicitation for the sheriff's office, please do not give out any credit card or bank account information."
Anyone who is contacted should call the sheriff's office at 483-3000.
