A Rocky Mount couple was charged with possession of crack cocaine after narcotics investigators raided a residence on Diamond Avenue in December.
Tereze Donnell Smith, 32, and Xyleena Zuri Smith, 27, are both charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
Tereze Smith is also charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Investigators arranged a controlled purchase of crack, which led to a search warrant being executed at the Rocky Mount residence on Dec. 12 at 1 a.m., according to Sgt. Lyle with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
When the SWAT team entered the residence, the male suspect fled on foot but was apprehended about a half mile away, Lyle said.
Inside the residence, investigators seized about three ounces of crack cocaine, which has an estimated street value of $8,000, Lyle said, as well as digital scales, a pound of marijuana ($1,000 street value), and $800 in cash.
The investigation is still active, Lyle said.
Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute is an unclassified felony, punishable by five to 40 years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000.
Possession of a pound of marijuana with intent to distribute is a Class 5 felony, punishable by one to 10 years.
No trial dates have been set for the defendants.
