Eighth-graders in Neil Sigmon's energy engineering class at the Gereau Center attempt to set a piece of wood on fire using the sun's heat. The students have built a parabolic dish using an old satelite dish with glued on mirror pieces. Once the sun's heat has been reflected to a focal point, which gets as hot as 600 to 800 degrees, the stick starts to warm up and a fire is started.
