STEP Inc. will provide free 2013 tax preparation assistance to residents of Franklin County.
This program, which provides this service in conjunction with Ferrum College, is available to all individuals and families who earned less than $51,000 total household income in 2013.
Certified volunteer tax assistants will prepare your taxes, making sure that you get the maximum refund available to you, and then electronically file your taxes on your behalf, all free of charge.
Help with basic income tax returns will be offered to Franklin County residents each Monday and Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. This service will be offered at STEP's offices at 200 Dent Street in Rocky Mount from Feb. 3 through April 10.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program offers free assistance to residents with low-to-moderate incomes, including persons with disabilities and older taxpayers who file Form 1040EZ, Form 1040A, or basic Form 1040 Federal tax returns.
The volunteer tax assistants will help filers in claiming any special credits and deductions for which they may be eligible. All volunteer tax assistants are IRS certified.
