The Franklin County Family YMCA has added new aquatics programs at its Rocky Mount facility, including a 25-foot inflatable slide.
"This slide gives us the opportunity to continue in our mission of providing the best aquatics programs to those we serve in Franklin County," said Jim Currie, CEO of the Y. "Our pool really is the crowning jewel in our facility and our slide days will make the pool attractive to everyone in the community."
The slide can be booked for parties, as well as being available for "Sunday Swim Days," which include use of the slide, floats and other aquatic activities.
"You need to be able to swim in order to use the slide, but don't worry, we have swim lessons," says Rob Turman, the Y's aquatic director.
The Y will be offering swim lessons for all levels beginning Feb. 3 and will have a one-day free introductory class on Jan. 26 from 1 to 3 p.m.
The cost for Sundays is $4 for members of the Y and $6 for non-members. The first scheduled Sunday swim is on Jan. 5.
Children currently enrolled in the before and after school program and the Y's summer camp also will have scheduled swim days included in those programs.
In addition, the Y offers a competitive swim team that has developed into a nationally recognized program that is producing swimmers that have already qualified for major regional competitions.
Currie said the Franklin County Family YMCA is committed to offering programs that bring families and
"Its aquatics programs are instrumental in accomplishing this mission because it gives families a chance to learn an important life skill and play together in a safe environment," he said. "The Y has taught thousands of children to swim over the years through its swim lessons, summer camp program and partnerships with the Franklin County school system and the Red Cross."
