The body found in the Henry section of Franklin County Thursday afternoon has been identified as the remains of Ricky Eugene Dodson, 51, of Bassett.
The cause of death has not been determined, according to Lt. Phillip Young with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
The remains were found in a wooded area off Philpott Road, about a mile and a half from where a burned vehicle was found on Oct. 6 with the remains of Vicky Harbour Purdy inside, said Capt. Mark Torbert.
Purdy's death has been ruled a homicide, but the cause of her death has not been released.
Investigators had been searching for Dodson in connection with the case since early October. Dodson was reportedly seen with Purdy a couple of days before she disappeared.
Dodson was not considered a suspect in the case, Young said.
The sheriff's office is not releasing any additional information about the investigation. But anyone with information is asked to contact Capt. Paul Caldwell at 540-352-5174 or the anonymous crimeline at 540-344-8500.
