A Chesapeake teenager was killed Saturday morning in a single-car crash on Route 122 in Franklin County.
Darius Tyre Dixon, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sgt. Rob Carpentieri with the Virginia State Police.
Dixon was the front-seat passenger in a 2004 Ford Taurus, driven by Abigail Jane Flower, 20, of Lynchburg, Carpentieri said. Dixon was not wearing a seat belt.
The Taurus was traveling south on Route 122 when it ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree, Carpentieri said. Flower and her brother, Caleb Flower, 18, the rear-seat passenger, were both wearing seat belts and were transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial for treatment.
Abigail Flower is charged with reckless driving as a result of the crash.
The incident occurred about 5:30 a.m. Saturday on Route 122 at the intersection of Route 1235.
