What appear to be human remains were found in the Henry section of Franklin County Thursday afternoon.
The remains have been sent to the medical examiner's office in Roanoke for identification, according to Lt. Phillip Young with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
The remains were found off Philpott Road, the same area where a burned vehicle was found on Oct. 6 with the remains of Vicky Habour Purdy inside, Young said.
Purdy's death has been ruled a homicide, but the cause of her death has not been released.
Investigators have been searching for Ricky Eugene Dodson, 51, of Bassett in connection with the case since early October. Dodson was reportedly seen with Purdy a couple of days before she disappeared.
Dodson is not considered a suspect in the case, Young said.
Until a positive identification of the remains is made, the sheriff's office will not release any additional information about the investigation.
