Two men and one woman were arrested Saturday and charged in connection with the theft of two laptop computers from Walmart in Rocky Mount.
Jared Ray Carrier, 24, of Patrick Springs, Amber Nicole Cochran, 28, of Bassett, and James Paul Trent, 25, of Bassett were all charged with possession of stolen property, according to Deputy J.A. McCarty with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
Carrier and Cochran were charged with grand larceny. Carrier was also charged with the illegal possession of prescription drugs, while Cochran was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Rocky Mount Police Department was investigating a shoplifting incident at Walmart Saturday morning when Sgt. Andy Pendleton put out a BOLO for a red 2004 Honda Accord with three occupants, according to Lt. M.W. Lovern.
McCarty spotted the car near Sontag Elementary traveling east on Sontag Road, he said. He stopped the car near Mitchell's Store. Two laptops were in plain view in the back seat, he added.
Other items found in the vehicle, electronics and clothing, may be linked to investigations in neighboring jurisdictions, Lovern said.
Twenty-four items were recovered with an estimated total value of $1,500, McCarty said.
Carrier was released on a $10,000 bond. Cochran is being held in the Western Virginia Regional Jail without bond, and Trent is being held under a $2,500 bond.
