The state forensic lab has confirmed that human remains were inside a burned vehicle found Sunday off Philpott Road in Henry.
The vehicle was discovered in a remote area in the 2000 block of Philpott Road, near the Henry County line, according to Lt. Phillip Young with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
At this time, investigators do not know if more than one body was inside the vehicle, only that there were human remains inside, Young said. The gender of the remains has not been established.
An individual looking at land for sale in the area saw the charred vehicle about 3:18 p.m. Sunday and called the sheriff's office.
The vehicle fire is "suspicious," Young said. The vehicle was badly burned.
Anyone who may have information about smoke or a fire in the area within the last couple of weeks is asked to contact Lt. Todd Maxey at 483-6601.
