The Virginia Tourism Corp. will bring its oversized LOVE artwork to Smith Mountain Lake on Sept. 23 as part of a state and local partnership to promote tourism.
The artwork, which is 16 feet long and more than 6 feet high, is part of the Virginia is for Lovers campaign and promotes the message that love is at the heart of every Virginia vacation.
Visitors can come see the LOVE when it arrives Sept. 23 at LakeWatch Plantation on Route 122, near Halesford Bridge.
Visitors are encouraged to take a family photograph in front of the artwork and share it on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/VirginiaisforLovers or on Twitter, using the special hashtag #LOVEVA.
The 25th Annual Smith Mountain Lake Wine Festival is a chance to enjoy a "grape" day at Smith Mountain Lake, Sept. 28 and 29.
This year, 27 wineries will be participating, along with 85 food and craft vendors.
Visitors should bring a lawn chair, relax and enjoy continuous live music. Saturday crowds will enjoy the bands Polychrome and Dragonfly. Sunday's festivities will feature The Kings.
Advance tickets are $20 for tasters, and $12 for designated drivers. At the gate, the tickets are $25 for tasters and $15 for designated drivers. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
The LOVE artwork made stops at Virginia Welcome Centers, attractions and localities throughout 2011 and 2012, and will travel to more locations in the state this year. It has become a favorite photo opportunity for visitors as well as local residents.
