Vendor spots are available for the 36th annual Boones Mill Apple Festival on Saturday, Sept. 21.
The festival will kick off at 10 a.m. with a flag raising ceremony, followed by the singing of the National Anthem at the Boones Mill Post Office.
The event, sponsored by the Boones Mill Lions Club and supported by area businesses, will feature an array of country and gospel music, cloggers, food, crafts and vendors.
Returning this year is a garden tractor pull by the Blue Ridge Mountain Garden Pullers Association.
Also returning is the Cave Spring Lions Club, who will offer free eye screenings in the Boones Mill Lions Building.
Old eyeglasses will be collected at the Lions booth to be recycled and distributed to persons with impaired vision.
Various other health screenings will be offered this year by the American National University (National College) for those interested.
Parking is free and additional parking will be available at the Boones Mill Municipal property (the former Continental Homes property). Watch for parking signs.
New to the festival this year is the addition of a free shuttle service to and from the festival location.
Admission to the festival is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods for donation to a local food pantry. Canned goods may be dropped off at the Lions club booth.
Brooms and raffle tickets will also be for sale to benefit the Lions of Virginia Foundation. The drawing will take place May 18, 2014, at the Lions of Virginia State Convention. First place prize is $14,000. Prizes for second and third place are $500 each. You do not need to be present to win.
Proceeds from the festival support the Boones Mill Lions Club and will be used for diabetes, eye sight and eyeglasses programs, and other community projects.
Ordinary rain showers will not postpone the event; however, in the event of extraordinary weather conditions, the festival will be postponed to Tuesday, Sept. 24.
