|Franklin County tops Northside for first win|

ROANOKE -- Franklin County made the most of four hits Thursday night en route to its first win of the season, a 6-3 triumph over Northside in Roanoke Valley Middle School summer league baseball game at Northside High School.
Franklin County (1-4), which led from start to finish, scored one run in the first inning, two in the third, one in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Northside countered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 3-2, and it tallied its final run in the bottom of the seventh.
Northside outhit Franklin County, 5-4, but committed three errors, while Franklin County was charged with two defensive miscues.
Also, Northside stranded five runners on base..
A two-run double was the highlight of Northside's two-run fourth frame, but Franklin County escaped the jam when pitcher Mathew Holley coaxed Northside's Mikah Smith to ground out to end the inning.
Jacob Bussey reached base three times for Franklin County. He collected a base hit in the first inning, drove in a run and scored twice.
Franklin County starting pitcher Devin Boothe held Northside in check for three innings. He surrendered just one hit, walked none and struck out two.
Tyler Craghead's first-inning base hit drove in Franklin County's first run. A two-run double by Holley brought Bussey and Jay Mohler home in the top of the third.
A Jared Vest single, which drove in Chris Carter, was the highlight of Franklin County's two-run seventh.
Franklin County plays Salem at home Tuesday.
