A Rocky Mount woman was indicted last week by a Franklin County grand jury on four felony charges and one misdemeanor charge in connection with the alleged abuse and endangerment of a child.
Kristie Leigh Hodges, 41, was indicted on charges of maliciously causing bodily injury to the child; permitting the life of the child to be endangered; showing reckless disregard for human life; distribution of Diazepam; and distribution of Amitriptyline.
The alleged offenses occurred on April 14.
Investigator Ashley Norton with the Rocky Mount Police Department said the indictments are the result of a call to police that alleged that Hodges had given the child drugs for the purpose of harming the child.
Police officers were sent to Hodges' residence to investigate, she added.
The child was taken to the hospital, Norton said, where two prescription drugs for which Hodges has a prescription were found in the child's body.
Hodges was arrested on June 4 and is being held without bond in the Western Virginia Regional Jail.
An indictment is not a finding of guilt. It is a determination by jurors that enough evidence exists to warrant a trial.
